REMEMBERING OUR FRIEND WALTER SADLER

Walter R. Sadler, who spent nearly his entire professional career at our firm, passed away on May 20 after a long battle with cancer.  He was a native Angeleno, born in 1956 and raised in Pacific Palisades.  He was, of course, a very smart and resourceful lawyer, educated at UC Santa Barbara, and then UC Davis School of Law, where he wrote and edited for the Law Review.

What stood out with Walt was the irrepressible sense of fun that he brought to the practice of law.  The pleasure that he took from solving his clients’ problems was of a piece with his zestful approach to every aspect of his very full life.  Walt approached each project with the expectation that, when the dust cleared, as it always did, his client was going to have what it needed, and they almost always did.  He especially enjoyed protecting the rights of consumers, and working for media clients who had tweaked the overweening pride of the wealthy and famous.  Walt had a way of writing and conducting himself that brought the people who needed it down to earth.   We will miss his practicality and wit in our partner meetings.  Everyone at the firm will miss his warmth, good nature, and generosity of spirit that made all who dealt with him feel comfortable and valued.
